TITLE: 'Raid of the three dozens', and the aftermath
OOC Date. 24.08.2003
IC Day and Year: ( Day of Honor ) 12.09.1088 AA.
A group of almost thirty-and-six (
36) bugbears tried to raid
the city of
ArboRea. They launched an attack on the western gate,
not very well prepared but strongly determined to break through,
for whatever reason, inspired with the Mother's fighting
rage.
The first wave of that group has been intercepted by some heroes who came
to aid the brave guards of
ArboRea. The second wave of bugbears, due to
this early resistance, encountered a growing force of fighters against
them. Alas, they had one of those most feared orcish shamans with them,
those from the western amward plains who are renowned for evil rituals.
The battle was ferocious and bloody but eventually the bugbears
lost this first real skirmish. Reinforcements, including the by now
informed Kelric, arrived to aid the defense of Arborean town, and
some heros began searching - if, in the heat of battle, some bugbears
or orcs could pass the gate...
Luckily, they found that not a single one of these creatures
passed, and those few trying died!
Kelric requested four of the heros to look whether there are more
bugbears outside, and there were indeed
more!
Most of them were scattered around, awaiting orders, looking for some
weak prey. One bugbear was almost captured alive, if not
for another bugbear who noticed that, remembering the orders
he recieved from his superior to not make hostages nor allow anyone to
take hostages - thus sending trapped ones to the Mother, including other
bugbears!
The result was that both bugbears died actually, one could obtain a bluish
sword from one hero prior to that though, and bleeding heavily he ran away,
wanting to have a look at the treasure he just found, before he went unconscious
and died due the bloodloss...
The main part of this outside group, about seven bugbears, were
surprised to see a group of about six gnolls arriving. (And, to the
gnolls' credit, the gnolls were even more surprised....)
A battle took place, and some moments later the heros arrived,
interfering in this chaotic battle. If that would not have been enough, an
elfish patrol arrived and assisted against the bugbears - and gnolls (the heros
assumed that the gnolls were on the bugbears side ... )
Anyway,
ArboRea was safe meanwhile, not a single bugbear could manage
to trespass to the east.
Meanwhile, the last group of bugbears, lead by a strong
bugbear with red hair(fur?), tried to destroy the huge trunk
of Amward - the trunk which extends over the fast-flowing river
Ulflenn. For this they have spread some oil over the trunk,
and tried to set the surface on fire while waiting for the bugbear
with red hair to return with big axes.
Yet, to their great dismay, the heroes arrived too early, slaughtering
them...
One bugbear, heavily wounded, was able to pass the river,
alerting the shaman Buncha, who came to have a look. As he noticed
a cleric of Taniel was in the enemy team, he prayed for Lilith to aid
him in the oncoming battle. While Buncha attacked the team to distract
them, he noticed pretty fast that it was too dangerous to fight them
outside the camp, and so he returned, meeting with the bugbear leader
who went outside, trying to talk with the heroes.
He tried to make them leave the area, and he failed.
In the end the bugbear camp was attacked mercilessly, Buncha died,
Lilith's shrine became violated and one of the heros, a small halfling
who has been noticed by Buncha sneaking in, was ripped apart by the
few orcs and bugbears standing close to the shrine.
Only the bugbear with the red hair was able to flee, not before he
heavily wounded the tshahark carrying the blue sword.
This bugbear vowed revenge, revenge which will be hard to
achieve as the bugbears have had heavy losses, noticing that they
might not have been prepared well enough for a battle.
Kelric quickly ordered some workers to repair the old drawbridge,
which was done pretty fast, thanks to available workers,
available tools and good motivation ("They could come back quite
soon...")
It is rumoured that the towers might soon be improved in
ArboRea.
Just recently we have finished a deal with the Asral clergy, a special patrol
now walks through
ArboRea to ensure that no evil enters our beloved town.

Addendum by Kelric:
We lack some financial support right now, thus we have delayed progress of the
fortifications. We need to improve the economical situation in Forostar again,
this will bring revenue into the town.
