Yoshiie was born in a distant land, if you ask him where he will simply say far to the east or far to the west, depending on how you look at it. This city is not like most known cities on the continent of Forostar. In fact, it is not on Forostar at all, but I am getting ahead of myself.

Born into an upper-middle class family, he was taught to respect his elders and some basic forms of combat. Nothing out of the ordinary in his home city. He was also quite interested in scriptures and mathematics as a youth, and excelled in both of them. Taught by his mother to read and write, and by his father to add and subtract, Yoshiie was a bright young boy. He enjoyed hunting with his father as a youth and became quite fond of his yumi, which was made for him by his father's friend, the master archer of the village. Considering this generally cost around 10 gold to have done normally, it was quite the gift! His robe was crafted by his mother, as were most of his other clothes. His weapons were forged by his father, who owned the town's most successful forge.

At the age of 14, his curiosity got the best of him and he decided to explore the cellar of the local arcane coercer, who held many scriptures and literary works there. He was discovered by the old man after only reading 1 book and a scroll, all in languages he could hardly decipher. He asked the old man if he could stay and read, and if he could perhaps teach him the fonts. The man agreed, and in that basement Yoshiie learned many things including philosophy, advanced mathematics, advanced combat art, and one thing in particular that piqued his interest. An old scroll that had some information of the Shao-Lin Temple of Forostar. Yoshiie felt strangely pulled to this scroll, and thought about it daily. After a year of considering, he decided to seek the temple to learn more of it. When he informed his mother and father of this, they were not upset nor excited, but felt that he was old enough to take responsibilty for himself.

At this point, Yoshiie set off on his journey. It was long and arduous, and was ended abruptly at the edge of a great mass of water. This was later found to be the ocean that separated him from Forostar. There he sat, in deep contemplation. After 10 months of traveling, he was stopped by the very thing that kept him alive his whole life, water. He was disappointed, but not broken. He sat in that spot for a long time, thinking he could build a raft of sorts to carry him across. But he did not know how large the sea was, nor the condition, nor if there were any monsters lurking in the deep. So, he sat and waited for several days before turning back to go home. But, on the night before he was to depart, he suddenly awoke in a field! He thought this was very strange, sense he had laid to sleep in his crude shanty on the edge of a beach. So, he did what anyone would do: explore. (Yoshiie believes he was carried across the sea by faeries who heard his disappointment and pitied him)

He walked for a day or so, taking in all the strange wildlife he saw around him. Then, on the next day he came upon something alarming, a city (this was later discovered to be ArboRea)! He entered the city in awe of, well, everything! The people were the first things he noticed, they were much larger than he and seemed to be less groomed. He also noticed the buildings, which were much different that the ones of his city. The culture was not much different at first glance, there were vendors on the streets hawking their business, people walking about in a disorderly manner, beggars, and bar fights. Although, he also noticed many people staring at him and parting a path for him as he made his way to the local pub. Nobody approached him, everyone seemed to be in shock. When he ordered a wine and asked what everyone was staring at him for, they all went back to their usual business.

He found some information about where he was (ArboRea) and of who he might speak with to attain information on the Shao-Lin Temple. Tired after his long day, he stayed in the empty loft above the pub. The next day he set out to explore some more, and to make an already quite long story short, he found a Master of the Shao-Lin Temple and was accepted into their halls. He now resides there, learning all he can. Although he still gets some odd looks when walking down the streets of ArboRea.
