Like most elves, Farinthul the Younger enjoys the forest. He likes
climbing in trees, and wandering around under their beautiful limbs.
And like a few other elves, he also loves to swim and climb cliffs,
and to go places that seem completely irrational. He is young, but
has inherited his name, many stories, and even a bit of wisdom from
his father, Farinthul the Elder.
Some sayings of his father include things like, "Pick your battles,
junior" and "the star that shines brightest dies first". His father
may have been speaking from experience about the stars, because he was
one of the oldest elves anyone could remember.
When Farinthul was still a tiny elven child, Farinthul the Elder
perished in a terrible hunting accident. The giant wasn't supposed
to be that far into the forest, and it wasn't supposed to be able
to hide that quietly. Lillith must have granted it some strange
powers to be so silent...It killed many of the hunting party before
it was brought down, and Farinthul the Elder was the first one to
fall.
Farinthul the Younger decided to try and toughen himself up, so that
the same fate would not befall him. But being a warrior is not in his
heritage, and he knows he will have to find other ways to defend
himself. He feels more at home in
ArboRea than anywhere else, perhaps
because
ElvanDar reminds him too much of the past.
He is also interested in learning languages and how they are written
down, for many reasons. But the main reason is so that he can translate
the family stories of his father and keep them alive.
Farinthul's favorite memory is that of his father telling him how the
humans came to Forostar, and about his encounter with a very old looking
human in the forest one day. This story and a few others he especially
wants to put down onto the parchment.
