Dazarsei Dawnstar, the second son of a common family in ElvanDar that served the Queen by having every male child join the army of ElvanDar nonetheless eventually became a ranger. When Dazarsei was a child he was raised like every normal elven child. He would help the family and, when he had free-time, would go out and play. However, unlike other children, he prefered to go outside the city walls and roam the forest instead of playing in the streets or the market-square. Dazarsei liked to go out because he liked to hear the animals, and occasionally, pet an animal. This proved to be a fairly easy task despite the fact the guards would not allow children out. Dazarsei knew to sneak past when the guards were busy eating lunch or when the current guards were being relieved. Sometimes Dazarsei would camp out in the forest, close to the walls. The first time his mother was furious with him, but as he continued anyway, she gradually grew to accept it.

Dazarsei's life was mostly uneventful until his twentieth year. The year he would start his training to become a soldier. His older brother, Feratos, was a drillmaster for the city-guards of ElvanDar and personally took up Dazarsei's training. Feratos first tried the sword and shield combination with Dazarsei. It soon became apparent that Dazarsei preferred having two weapons in his hands, when he kept trying to bash his sparring partners with the wooden shield rather than use it to block their strikes. However, Feratos wished Dazarsei to become used to it and tried training Dazarsei out of the habit for a few months. After the third month and no progress he told Dazarsei that he should use the broadsword and wield it with both hands. Dazarsei fared only slighty better and kept asking his father to allow him to try two swords. Feratos after having to hear his brother continually ask him, relented. Dazarsei then tried wielding two longswords. He soon found that wielding two weapons of the same length was much too awkward. He then tried practicing with the longsword, shortsword combination, and found it much easier to handle.

For ten years Dazarsei trained with his brother, among others. During his thirtieth year, the year he enlisted in the army, tragedy struck his family. His family was traveling to Cumberly to meet with friends, and to allow Dazarsei some time off in the plains before he joined his patrol group, when a group of goblinkind attacked the group they were traveling with. All of those who were able took up their weapons and battled with them. During the fighting Tosanel, Dazarsei's father, was struck down by a pair of orcs, but not before he slew another of their kind and a hobgoblin. The goblinkind were being killed faster than the defenders, but the goblinoids had more numbers. When it seemed like they were doomed, an arrow whistled into the fray, hitting an orc in the throat and killing it. Then another whistled in, striking the hobgoblin Dazarsei was fighting and dazing it long enough for Dazarsei to thrust his shortsword into its throat. Dazarsei stopped fighting long enough to trace the angle of the arrow backwards to see who was aiding them. He saw what seemed to be an elf wearing a cloak with woodland colors charging forward with a loaded bladed bow and it seemed he was aiming straight at him. Before Dazarsei could react the elf loosed the arrow and it went whizzing past his shoulder, he heard a thunk and turned around to see an orc with the arrow buried deeply into its forehead. The goblinoids seemed to recognize the elf and what was left of the goblins fled, leaving a few orcs and some hobgoblins. The defenders that were left pressed on harder now that the numbers were mostly even. Then the elf was among them, a long spear with a wide-bladed spearhead in his hands. The first victim of the elf was an orc. The spear was thrusted once, and found its place in the belly of it's target. Then the elf backswung and broke the arm of the orc and hit the leg of another, tripping it to the ground for another of the defenders to kill it with a slash to the throat. Dazarsei and Feratos were fighting just as hard. Dazarsei, with another of the group, was fighting an orc. He leapt forward and slashed at the orcs legs. The orc was able to parry, and while it was distracted the other defender impaled its side with his broadsword. The orc was hardy, though, and would not fall, until it noticed the shortsword buried in its chest, impaling its heart. Feratos was busy handling the last orc. He held off his strikes, allowing his opponent to repeatedly hit his shield, tiring itself. Then the orc slipped from it's weariness, not pulling its own sword back fast enough. It was just long enough for Feratos to lash out with his sword and the blade buried into the orcs neck. A few minutes later all that was left were a few hobgoblins, noticing they were outnumbered, they dropped their weapons and fled.

The defenders turned to the elf to give thanks but could not find him. All, except Dazarsei who was only able to catch one detail on the elf's shirtsleeve, a bow in a circle. Finally the defenders could tend to their dead and wounded. Both Feratos and Dazarsei were surprised to find their father's corpse, for neither had been near him when he fell. Dazarsei's mother, Aquinei, took the news of Tosanel's death calmly, although she was filled with grief. They reached BanDama and were able to enjoy most of their stay after their friends brought them out of their grief. Dazarsei, was very curious as to who the elf was and what the symbol on his shirt meant, so he asked around about him. It turned out that the elf was a ranger, a person who liked the wilds, and that the ranger normally helped those that would travel on the plains. When it came time to leave for ElvanDar Dazarsei was thinking about the symbol, and the other items he found out were the "trademark" of the rangers, he would never forget the bow within the circle. When they returned they held a formal funeral for their father, a quiet affair, with only a few attending. A few months after the funeral Aquinei took her life. She left no note explaining why, but her sons needed none. They both knew that she could no longer bear to be without Tosanel, their father.

Afterwards Dazarsei's life passed rather uneventfully for the next fifty-six years. During his sixty-second year of life he started using a shortbow, loosing a few arrows before the melee started whenever his patrol group was forced to fight. Then in his seventy-fourth year Feratos died. Feratos was on-duty and his patrol was near the cliffs east of ElvanDar. His patrol was required to move onto the cliffs and to search the area for any goblins they could find. If possible they were to slay the current cyclops that was terrorizing the road. The group found the cyclops, but not in the way they expected, they were ambushed on the cliff. With the element of surprise the cylops and the large group of orcs and goblins with it were able to kill three of the elves at the start of the battle. The group was able to get rid of most of the goblins and a few orcs but the cyclops blasted them with wide swings of its spiked clubs. It soon became obvious the only way they would survive would be to flee, but the cyclops was blocking their only way out along the cliffs. Feratos, then deciding that as many of the group should survive, charged the cyclops. He succeded in knocking it off balance. It was obvious, though, that it would not fall off, so Feratos leaped up, dropped his sword, and grappled the cyclops' body pushing with all his might. They both plummeted to their deaths. The remaining elves, seizing their chance, fled. The goblinoids stopped their chase soon after they were past the cliffs.

Dazarsei mourned for the loss of his brother and decided to delay acting on a decision he had made, to leave the guards and to become a ranger. For the next sixteen years he did his duty, patrolling and defending ElvanDar. Then in his nintieth year of life, decided it was time to leave the guards. He took what was his and resigned, deciding that he would defend nature and all that he could, and not just his city.
