The Journal of the Lurenad Bloodline.
Purpose:
This page is for discussing the old laws of Elvandar, in case a more intricate 're-instated' law system should be wanted.
Having seen several comments about this in the forums and OOC board, I decided to pick up the challenge, and hopefully
this falls in good favour from everyone.
Iaelera is currently running for judge, with the purpose of instating laws herefrom and elsefrom as seen fit, should
she win.
I think this will be a good chance for better and more interesting RP as the rather bland laws of Elandar do not open up for many cultural clashes.

Generic ideas:
I imagine the law might be based upon customs taken for granted, things turning from 'inappropriate' to 'illegal', respect for arts and creation, discrimination towards non-Elves, (and more I cannot think of quite at the moment.) --

Specific law ideas:
Dealing with respecting art and creation, perhaps a clause to never hurt bards for their songs/singing/playing?

These suggestions are based on a situation where a radical/extremist or very conservative Judge were to garner enough support to make changes of this nature.
One thing that might not be very interesting in itself, but could at least provide some detail and a sense of Elven taste might be laws that would normally be considered common sense (to elves), but after interaction between other races in their cities (particularly dwarves and humans) became more prevalent, had to be addressed more directly.
In real life terms I'm thinking of those antiquated sort of laws that cities have, that are still on the books, but are basically no longer enforced. Basic etiquitte laws like:
**Spitting in public
**Swearing in public
**Making crude/offensive noises
Things like that.
Perhaps there could also be minor offenses for more racially based things like:
**Not speaking the official language of the city when inside the city walls
**Additional fine for speaking the racial languages of Boreal/Khuzdul (but not Gnar, since their embassy is there)
**Non-citizens addressing Citizens by some honorific (Sir/Madame or maybe some made up one) as well as City Officials and other positions of prestige.
**Stepping out of the way of an elf/citizen to allow them to pass uninterrupted
Some of these would obviously be difficult to enforce or even act out as a player, but the idea is to provide some environment more than anything else. The fines for things like this would obviously be trivial. --

Perhaps the part about languages could be made into a law regarding adressing citizens in the official language of the city (Quenya) unless other arrangement has been made. I think that fits both a 'diplomatic' sense, and a 'cultural' sense.
I also imagine a lot of basic etiquette/antiquated laws.
I think it would fit presumption from 'old laws' if the law sometimes mixed up "elves" and "citizens", presuming all elves to be citizens.
I agree fines for most of those 'tradition-based laws' should be rather trivial, perhaps tending to range from 8 silver to two gold.

While it might not provide as much room for conflict or a more traditional view of Elven culture, I think Common would most likely be also considered an official language, especially considering Common was derived largely from Quenya.
