I know Naga and I have used a few of these, and I encourage others who's characters would know a thing or two to do so as well.
Also, I have decided to post it here so that these things can be "standardized" to a degree. Feel free to disagree, as home remedies often vary wildly
Vaans- decent narcotic... so.... Chew on it until it is a pulp, hold that under your tongue for a bit. game command: eat vaan
Bredlem - very potent narcotic ... Chew on it just enough to break the leaf open, and suck on the juices within it for a bit. Spit out the rest. game command: eat bredlem
Revax - settles the stomache ... smash to a paste, add water till it is a thin mash texture, like applesauce.... eat the results. game command: eat revax
I know Naga used an herb to put in a lamp, and create a thicker smoke to help someone sleep easier when they suffered nightmares. I do not recall if it was a folon or vaan though.

As I see it, there are several dimensions of an herb to be considered when trying to give it meaning within the world of the game. First, whether it has a culinary use and its flavor. Second, whether it has any interesting visual properties or uses, e.g. as a pretty flower to give to a girl, or making bracelets out of dandelions. Third, recreational and medical applications. Fourth, in legends, lore, and customs, e.g. datgaars glow because they are situated over the graves of faeries. Fifth, whether there are some other applications, e.g. a certain mixture of herbs being rubbed on dead bodies to help them keep color before burial. Lastly, in superstitions, religion, or folk magic, e.g. "Keep these herbs in your pocket to ward off demons, keep these other herbs in a bag around your neck to catch the eye of your true love."
I don't want to see it become too standardized such that it inhibits inventive roleplaying, but I definitely think that
some customs and conventions are important. Bottom line: we can make this wiki project much more expansive.
Here are some basic cultural considerations:
- Forest herbs, cultures in contact: elves (primary), humans, halflings, orcs
- Swamp: Lizardfolk, humans
- Beach: humans
- Arctic: barbarians, Asador, trollkin, goblins
- Desert: (???)
- Town: all civilized races
- Cave: dwarves (primary), kobolds, halflings
- Mountain: dwarves, humans, halflings?
- Jungle: (???)
- Meadow: gypsies, goblinoids, humans
This is only a starting point, and reflects which culture probably developed superstitions and folk practices around the herbs of each region. Of course, we can expect that certain cultures (elves especially), have had sophisticated herbal knowledge of areas outside their homes for centuries, but these imported herbs would probably be luxury items (like exotic spices in medieval Europe), and their use might be a little different than native plants reflecting most people's lack of familiarity with them.
