Devi's Story

Born into a family with neither wealth nor noble blood, Devi refused to follow in her parents' footsteps. She had no interest in serving others. To her, tailors and city guards were no better than paupers. In a fit of rebellion, she abandoned her family, her home, and Taniel to seek her fortune among the humans in Arborea. She discovered that humans cared much more for power and money than they did for nobility. In Arborea, she learned the arts of combat, sought fortune and adventure, experienced the shadiest corners of the city, became bardmaster, spent some time as a judge, and eventually discovered a life of prestige (or perhaps infammy). She has spent the last decade acquiring a noble education, expounding the benefits of reason, riding horses, and spreading rumours about her perfection. After working for decades to secure a place in Arborean society, Devi has nearly retired from adventuring, finding blood much too likely to stain and mining much too dirty. She is now an avid follower of Gwen, a prolific songwriter, and an outspoken (and often misinformed) critic. Ultimately, she is driven by extravagent tastes and impossible ambitions. She dreams of owning at least a quarter of Arborea, on which she will build a mansion with stables for every stallion.
